AND THE WORD OF THE LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; (Ezekiel 14:2-4).
Let’s learn from that. God is not an element we can fool. He is awesome and omniscient. He doesn’t joke like we think He does at all. We must always go to Him in reverent awe and absolute surrender—never dictating for Him or having a pre-set idea which we want Him to follow and just expecting Him to rubber-stamp our own plan while adamantly disregarding His ultimate plan, purpose and will for our lives. We must always approach Him with open hearts and surrendered minds ready to perfectly align with His absolute will for our lives in all respects whenever we seek His face. This is because His ways are never our ways. They are way different. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah55:9). Yet, we must always seek to tune in to His—never keeping our ways parallel (or at logger heads) to His. Our ways must meet (converge with) His own if we want peace, joy and contentment in life and eternity.
Lord, I don’t have an idol in my heart. I don’t want an idol in my heart. Help me Lord! Is that your prayer too?
